ABOUT CODING AND PDGM… WHAT TO EXPECT?

With the pending payment model change, the Patient Driven Groupings Model, the importance of coding and its contribution to agency reimbursement has become THE hot topic. Accurate coding can help ensure that agencies provide the necessary and appropriate care for patient across all acuity levels. By discussing the conventions and guidelines which govern code selection, reviewing the chapters to look at coding for various body systems and situations and outlining coding impacts under PDGM, coders will learn the process of ethical coding to the highest level of specificity which will provide a smoother transition to PDGM.

OBJECTIVES

Participants will be able to locate the various parts of the coding manual and identify tips, guidelines and conventions.
Participants will be able to define the basic principles of coding ethics and how they apply to their everyday practice.
Participants will verbalize understanding of more advanced concepts in coding including sequencing, etiology and manifestation coding and knowing when more information is required.
